When Fairies Attack Page 1

All The Hard Times in Old England

The idea for this story goes back even further than the first one. I had been reading the 1977 Readers Digest book Folklore, Myths and Legends of Britain a lot (sadly out of print, although there are several similar books available now) and thought a sort of rural British X-Files would make a good basis for a comic series. Round about the same time, Mike Mignola’s Hellboy story The Corpse appeared for the first time (serialised a page every month in Capital City’s Advance Comics catalogue – remember that?), and I liked the creepy atmosphere, the dark sense of humour, and the look of the malicious little changeling. As such this tale is more than a little “inspired” by The Corpse, but I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, if you’re going to nick stuff, nick from the best.

The soundtrack to this story is of course Noreen & Dinsdale’s super folk rock mixtape, which you can check out on Spotify here.
